What is a board pitch?
A "board pitch," as we are using the term, is essentially the 60-90 second elevator pitch that you will use to introduce yourself and convey your value proposition to a potential board of directors. More specifically, we are focused on pitching to corporate boards in these sessions.
While there is not a single board pitch that you will use to appeal to every single corporate board target, this is your chance to try out what you might say and see how it lands with different audiences, including people you don't know very well or may have just met.
What are Board Pitch Days?
Board Pitch Days - Summer 2024, facilitated by Anne Marie Segal, are your chance to refine and practice presenting your board pitch to an audience of your peers, who are also board-ready candidates.
Why is Segal Coaching LLC hosting Pitch Days?
First, to serve our community. Honing a compelling, informative and concise board pitch - that conveys your board value proposition - can be the missing link between hoping for a board role and actually landing one.
Second, to expand our community. We have found that at the top of the "wish list" of many of our board-ready clients and friends is to meet new and strengthen existing relationships with connections who are at similar and/or complementary places in their career and life journeys.
Board Pitch Days are designed to be structured yet low-key interactions with peers, some of whom you likely wouldn't have a chance to otherwise meet. Therefore, they are a welcoming environment in which you can comfortably practice and get feedback on your board pitch.
When are we meeting?
Board Pitch Days - Summer 2024 are offered on Thursday. July 11, 2024 at:
- 12:30 pm ET / 11:30 am CT / 9:30 am PT
- 2 pm ET / 1 pm CT / 11 am PT
and on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at:
- 11 am ET / 10 am CT / 8 am PT
- 1 pm ET / 12 pm CT / 10 am PT
If you register for Board Pitch Days - Summer 2024, you will receive Zoom instructions for all four sessions and may join at any or all of these times.
Yes, that's right. This is a four-for-the-price-of-one deal that is priced economically enough to take once but available to take up to four times!
How many people can attend?
The sky is the limit for your board success, but we will cap the total number of Board Pitch Days - Summer 2024 participants at ~40 (as an absolute maximum across all sessions).
With a maximum of 40, this means that each individual session may have up to 40 participants. Given the availability of four different sessions, however, we expect that the number in each will be considerably less.
Do you need to be from any particular industry or have a specific career background to attend Board Pitch Days?
We are intentionally open to all industries and professions to increase the diversity of participants and enhance your experience.
Many members of our community are legal executives, such as CLOs or General Counsel, and a number of those are also Corporate Secretaries with an insider view of board selection and on-boarding.
That said, we also work with CEOs, CFOs, CROs, COOs, CPOs, CIOs, CMOs and others, and not all of them have a "C" at the front of their title.
Similarly, our clients' executive and board roles span start-ups, private equity, fund management, Fortune 10s, Fortune 500s, other public and private companies as well as non-profits and government.
If you are matched in any of the Pitch Sessions with participants who have very different careers and backgrounds than yours, please take it as an opportunity to listen for and learn something new and to break out of the usual feedback loops many of us face in multiple areas of our lives.

Can you join if you are already a corporate board member, so you can continue to level up and adjust your board pitch to match your current board value proposition?
Of course! We have already had corporate board members register for these sessions and would be happy to welcome additional current board members to the Board Pitch Days.
Do you need any "prerequisites" to join?
Board Pitch Days are interactive sessions. The requirements to join are:
1. being a leader who is (in broad brush) qualified for and seriously considering or already seeking a first or next board role, and
2. showing up ready to provide thoughtful feedback to other participants in the session.
How do I know if I am "qualified" for a board role?
For Board Pitch Days, we ask that you send us a copy of your current resume and/or LinkedIn® profile no later than Monday, June 17, 2024, unless we already have one on file.
Note that we will not be making a judgment call on whether you are qualified for a board role, only screening out any registrants who are not in the "ballpark" of board-ready candidates, in order to preserve the integrity of the Board Pitch Days community.
If you enroll and are either (1) screened out through this process or (2) fail to submit the required documents, we will refund 100% of the enrollment fee you paid.
What do we mean by "thoughtful feedback" (#2 above)?
Thoughtful feedback two things.
First, it means that you put yourself in the position of someone who is poised to interview a candidate for a corporate board role (i.e., get out of the executive mindset to take a board view, which is something we will gently and consistently encourage in all of our board-readiness programming).
Second, it means that you give appropriate, helpful comments on other participants' board pitches that will enable them to hone their delivery and improve their presentation to accelerate the landing of a board role.

By registering for Board Pitch Days - Summer 2024, you authorize Segal Coaching LLC to share your name, title, company and LinkedIn profile link with other participants. We will not be sharing your resume or other information. You also agree to keep all non-public information about other participants confidential.
Please be judicious about what you share at the Board Pitch Days. We can be reasonably selective about who joins, but we cannot guarantee confidentiality.
We reserve the right to (1) refund the full amount paid for this workshop to anyone who registers but does not meet the eligibility qualifications and (2) refuse entry to future sessions (without a refund) for anyone who attends but does not actively engage in the feedback portions.
Thanks, and hope to see you at our first (or next) Board Pitch Days of 2024!
